Dümmen Orange proud winner of the Plantum Sustainability Award

Global plant breeder wins thanks to new sustainable production protocol for minimal use of chemicals.

With its introduction of GreenGuard, Dümmen Orange walked off with the Plantum Sustainability Award 2019! GreenGuard is the new production protocol in ornamental horticulture that produces vital cuttings with minimal chemical use.

Plantum is the Dutch association for the plant reproduction material sector. The winner was announced during Plantum’s general meeting of members. Reinoud Hagen (Head of Commercial Operations, Benelux) accepted the prize on behalf of Dümmen Orange and was both pleased and proud: 'Receiving this recognition is simply fantastic! Dümmen Orange is constantly working towards a future in which we produce our products as sustainably as possible by reducing the use of chemicals in the production of cuttings to protect people and the environment. In addition, GreenGuard allows us to respond to the rising demand for sustainable products grown with fewer chemicals. Integrated Pest Management is clearly the right step in this direction.'

GreenGuard is a unique and effective Integrated Pest Management (IPM) protocol for the production of vital cuttings with minimal chemical use. The Dümmen Orange GreenGuard production at our mother stock locations results in sustainably grown products for our customers. GreenGuard meets the requirements of growers and retailers, and ensures sustainable products for growers, retailers and consumers.

By minimizing the use of chemicals, Dümmen Orange is enabling its customers to start introducing beneficial insects to their crop immediately. GreenGuard perfectly complements both Integrated Pest Management and customers' plant resilience systems.

All our pot and garden chrysanthemums, poinsettia and pelargonium cuttings transported from Africa are now being produced according to the GreenGuard protocol, and more products will follow. Various export companies and retailers are being consulted about the possibilities for increasing promotional activities and sales.
